Democratizing the nature of learning

Helping you make the case for using Museum in Box.

Museum in a Box was built with education and learning at it’s heart, to be used in Museum surroundings and in the classroom environment. It’s primary objective is to democratize the nature of learning, it does this by giving museums the ability to share their collections more fully and allows student ownership over their learning in schools.

Tool: Education Strategy written by our founder George https://museuminabox.org/educational-strategy/

Did you know?

The Royal Mint Museum has had around 25,000 interactions with their Boxes over the last 4 Years

Tool: The Getting started education kit.
This is a special Lesson Plan to help teachers develop their thinking in how MIAB might be able to help in the classrooms for different age groups.

Using the Make Your Own Kit in your classroom will give your students real ownership over their learning. It will allow them to explore a topic in a way that is relevant to them, and develop higher order thinking skills along the way. The Kit, and the suggested project framework below, encourages intrinsic learning – allowing students to dig deeper into topics and objects that are inherently interesting to them. By writing their own stories to accompany the objects in the collection, they are responding to the area of study, and putting themselves into their work.

Museum in a Box, and especially the Make Your Own kit, is aligned with Bloom’s Taxonomy, an ordering system for learning outcomes. It outlines the cognitive evolution for students as they learn in more depth, from knowledge and understanding, through to creation and evaluation. The project allows space for students to progress through all of these skills, resulting in a rich learning experience which fosters a thirst for life-long learning.
This is available with purchases of our Education Box.

Museum in a Box has a quick and easy set up which makes it possible to quickly reuse it from project to project. You don’t need a new box.

Some examples of where Museum in a Box has either been used within a traditional education setting, or within a Museum environment. Although we could classify all Box uses as educational we have tried to pick out projects where Education has a strong thrust.
